El Instituto Cultural Español de Dublin, actual Cervantes, fue inaugurado el 11 de febrero de 1974. Desde el inicio de sus actividades en 1972, teniendo en cuenta sus relaciones históricas,  dió prioridad al fomento de las relaciones de Irlanda con Galicia. A dicho fin ,declaró 1974 el AÑO DE GALICIA EN IRLANDA y llevó a cabo el siguiente programa de activiades:

 

* Creación de la sección de lengua y literatura gallegas en la biblioteca del Instituto Cultural Español.

* Presentación del proyecto de diccionario de gaélico-castellano-catalán-gallego y euskera.

* Solicitud de la aceptación de Galicia  en el Festival "Pan-Celtic" de Killarney, Co.Kerry.

* Gestionar la publicación de artículos o espacios en los medios de comunicación irlandeses acerca de las relaciones históricas entre Galicia e

   Irlanda.

* Donación de material publicitario, en inglés, sobre la oferta turística y cultural de Galicia, a todos los centros provinciales coordinadores de bi-

   bliotecas públicas así como a los centros docentes que impartían su enseñanza en gaélico.

* Proyección de documentales acerca de la oferta turística, cultural y artística de Galicia así como del Camino de Santiago en colaboración con

   los profesores de lengua española y gaélico asi como del Colegio Técnico Superior de Kevin Street, Dublin.

* Ciclo de charlas y conferencias sobre las relaciones históricas de Galicia e Irlanda e irlandeses en el Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

 

* Presentación del Ballet Gallego  Rey de Viana de la Excma. Diputación Provincial de La  Coruña en el Teatro Gaiety de Dublin desde 

   el 13-25 de mayo de 1974.

 

* Asímismo,  creación y organización del concurso de proyectos y trabajos escolares acerca de GALICIA EN IRLANDA - " GALICIA, THE  

   CELTIC REGION OF SPAIN"..

  

   Optaron a los premios  más de trescientos proyectos y los autores de los cinco mejores proyectos fueron invitados a visitar Galicia

   acompañados de sus padres y profesores de español. Tuvo una amplia cobertura en los medios de comunicacion de Irlanda y Galicia.

   El concurso se realizó con la colaboración y ayuda del Ministerio de Información y Turismo, Excma.Diputación Provincial de La Coruña y

   la Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza.

   Asímismo, se llevó a cabo en cooperación con  los Centros Provinciales Coordinadores de Bibliotecas Públicas de Irlanda.

   BASES DEL CONCURSO DE TRABAJOS ESCOLARES

  

   "GALICIA EN IRLANDA" - "GALICIA THE CELTIC REGION OF SPAIN"

  

 

  

 

 

   The  Spanish Cultural Institute of Dublin is holding a Schools Projects Competition with 25 prizes for the best project works submitted on the

   theme: GALICIA, THE CELTIC REGION OF SPAIN, to celebrate the first visit to Ireland of the Ballet Gallego Rey de Viana de la Excma.

   Diputación Provincial de La Coruña at the Gaiety Theatre,Dublin,  from the 13th to the 24th May, 1974.

 

   COMPETITION RULES:-

   ____________________

 

   * The competition is open to all Irish students in Primary, Secondary and Vocational schools.

  

   * Subjects: All works or projects should refer to the history, literature, language, geography, customs, music, folklore or products of Galicia.

 

   * All projects should be written in Galician, Spanish, Irish or English.

   

   * All entries must be individual efforts and original.

 

   * The Institute will not enter into correspondance with any entrant; neither can it undertake to return submitted works. Any entrant wishing to 

      recover his proyect can do so by collecting it from the Institute before the 1st June 1974.

 

   * The Panel of Judges will be made up of seven members, consisting of three representatives from Irish teaching bodies, and three from the 

      Institute. The Director of the Institute will act as Chairman to the competion, and one of the Institute representatives will act as Secretary to  

      the Panel.

 

   * All entrants should indicate their name, age and address on their projects, and the name and address of the teacher or person who supervised 

      their  project or projects.

 

   * Prizewinning works will become the property of the Institute, for incorporation into the Institute Library, for possible publication and/or

      exhibition of Schools Projects "Galicia, the Celtic Region of Spain".

 

   * Selection of prizewinners will take place on the  10th May 1974.

 

      The  prizes awarded will consist of books, records of Spanish and Gallician music,articles of Galician craftwork and/or free tickests (two per

      person) to a performance of the Ballet Gallego Rey de Viana at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.

 

  * Special prizes: The five  best entries, apart from their corresponding prize from the above selection, will receive a special prize. 

 

  * All competition projects should be sent to the Spanish Cultural Institute, 28, Northumberland Road, Dublin 4, before the 15th April, 1974.
